Susan M Edgerton Art Gallery
The Artist
A graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (1994), Susan is a lifetime resident of Southeastern Wisconsin. For five years, she was a member of Lemon Street Gallery (Kenosha), where she participated on committees and boards. Her affiliations have included the Racine Arts Guild (Racine), Walker's Point (Milwaukee) and the League of Milwaukee Artists (Milwaukee). Her work has also hung at Barbara's Yarn Garden (Racine), the Anderson Arts Center (Kenosha), Common Grounds Coffee Shop (Kenosha) and others. Recently, she served as the art director for Oliver's Art Gallery in St. Francis, Wisconsin. Her pyrographics, paintings and drawings have won awards, been published and received into juried exhibitions. A combined interest in photography and graphic arts and design has brought her into the world of digital manipulation, in which she is utilizing her skills as an artist in her DigiArt renderings, for which she is seeking publication and licensing. Her goals include writing and illustrating children's books as well as someday owning her own gallery.
The Artwork
Susan is an illustrator as well as a fine artist. This web site will aquaint you with her paintings, drawings, sketches and woodburnings. She works within series of themes and mediums, taking what she has discovered and applying that to new visual applications.
Her artwork often plays with the viewer, engaging the viewer in games of surrealistic perception with monumental botanicals and fauna in the foreground.
In her "Crop Circle" series, her game of perception is expanded to trickery. These paintings appear to be abstract art. In reality, they are representational of land shapes drawn from an airplane. She is excited to turn her other airplane sketches into wood and metal wall-sculptures and free-standing sculptures someday.
She also enjoys incorporating a sense of three-dimensionality by adhering elements to her canvasses or veneers to her wood, selecting softer woods for the purpose of burning her designs deeply with more pattern and texture.
Currently, she has been developing her skills as a digital manipulator through her exploration of Adobe Photoshop, Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Windows Movie Maker. Corel Draw is sitting on the piano waiting to get it's chance! Her images range from the fanciful imagination to surreal dream worlds to romaticized documentations to humorous comics utilizing both of her backgrounds in graphic design and art.
